Correction re: last date to drop with W

On reviewing the Calendar for Fall 2003, I realize that the actual LAST DAY to drop a class in the regular semester is Saturday November 22nd. If you have not submitted any assignments or taken the test, please contact the Admissions and Records office to drop the class by Friday November 21st. This Friday, before Thanksgiving. Late starting classes can drop by Tuesday but our class is considered a Regular Semester class, even though it is online. You will receive a W (Withdrawn) grade. If you have not submitted any assignments and do not drop the class now you will receive an F grade. If you intend to stay in this class, please complete Assignments 1-6 by Friday. Thanks, see you in the next special lab on Wednesday December 3rd from 6-8 PM.

Test 2 and other assignments and discussions...

Test 2 will open on Wednesday November 20 and close on December 4. Please don't wait until the last day as it sometimes closes a few hours early. (This is controlled by WebCt.) I will give another special lab on Wednesday December 3rd from 6-8 pm for those who have questions or need help. Please come in.

Please complete Assignments 1-6 by November 23rd. The last day to drop with a W is November 24 and I will have to drop students who do not have enough work put in.

Start your Research Paper by submitting the topic to me. Assignments 7, 8, 9 and Research Paper Due have to do with the Research Paper assignment. The Research Paper assignment is under Modules. Read this page! Choose any topic and show how it has been effected by the Internet. Read the Lectures, especially the lectures on OPACs and Databases and A Short Guide to Library Research. Read the Module for Week 10 on Evaluation. For Citation and documentation read Chapter 14 of the textbook and the MLA guidelines at the Cyberlibrary.

Presentations. Each student is required to make a presentation online about their Research Paper. This is the FINAL for this course so don't skip it. Your Presentation should consist of a summary of your Research Paper including at least three (3) websites. There are several ways to give your presentation to the class.
1) A simple way is to write an MS Word document and Save for Web.
2) Another way is to compose a simple PowerPoint presentation. Check this site out for Creating a Simple PowerPoint Presentation
3) You can create a Simple Web Page. Read the information in Module 15.
4) Module 14.1 shows you how to upload HTML pages to the Student Presentations, which is under the Course Menu
Decide how you are going to present. You can send your presentation to me and I will post it for you, if you cannot figure out how to post. We can even have some up on our blog!

Discussions : Please post in the remaining discussions. Only the first discussion is not graded. Post under Plagiarism and then, after you post in the Discussion Area go to the Submit Assignments box for that discussion, which comes at the end after the Research Paper, and submit a statement such as "I have posted on Plagiarism (or other topic) on this date ............" Thanks. I can then post a grade. See Module for Week 9 for more information about Netiquette, or etiquette for the Internet. Join in on the discussion on this topic. You can also read about Netiquette at this Oregon State site. Go to the Lectures to read about the USA PATRIOT Act, look at the websites and then post your comments in the Discussion area.

We have reached a critical time in the semester when all the courses are giving you a lot of pressure. Please set aside time for this course. I want all my students to be a success and get a good grade in the class. I know you can do it!

Special catch-up lab

I will be holding a face-to-face lab in the library on Wednesday, November 12 from 6-8 PM. This will be a chance to ask questions in person and spend time completing your assignments. Everyone should be writing their research papers now. Send in your topic so that you can get it approved by me and then start your research. I will be completing the grading of the test this weekend and the grades will be posted in Get My Stuff--Get My Grades. You can return to the test to look over the questions and answers after it is graded. Novemeber 24 is the last date to withdraw with a W grade in the course. If you cannot come to the library at the above times please let me know when you can come and I will make an appointment for you. Now its time to be current in this class! Joy Chase, instructor
