Assignment 3 History of the Book

Read through the chronological timetable of the history of the book. Choose an event. Do additional research on the web or in the physical library using books and encyclopedias. Write one (1) page (250 words) on the topic of your choice. In your own words--do not copy and paste from the Internet!

This is an easy assignment. There will be another question later on the history of the Internet. Do your own research once you have chosen a topic. Some topics chosen in the past have been clay tablets, papyrus scrolls, the Tibetan Book of the Dead, the Alexandrian Library, the effects of the invention of the printing press, etc. Whatever you chose, define, research, write a short essay and cite your works.

We have been having a lively discussion. Plagiarism defined: --
Plagiarism. To appropriate the writings, graphic representations or ideas of another person and represent them as one's own, (that is, without proper attribution). Plagiarism is a form of intellectual property violation.
This definition is attributed to The Online Ethics center glossary at Case Western Reserve University.

Melissa pointed out to me that in Assignment 2 the University at Albany Library has dropped Netscape. This website is only a suggestion. Please do your own research and compare
any other browsers Lynx, Mozilla, Opera, Netscape and Internet Explorer.

On a personal note: I am going into a very active family phase for about two weeks. Many of you know of my connection to Australia where the rest of my family migrated in 1968 except for one sister. That sister, Jenny, lives in Santa Barbara and is getting married on October 16. My other sister, Margo, is coming from Brisbane, Australia and my brother, Eric, who lives with his family in Auckland, New Zealand is also coming. As the oldest sibling, I have many responsibilities for entertaining and helping everyone, those of you who are the eldest know what I mean :-)! I will be checking my class via the Internet however I will be taking off several days next week and will not be in the library from Wednesday October 13th-18th.

Please catch up with your homework, if you are behind. I should be getting Assignments 2 and 3 this week and start work on Assignment 4. Keep up with your readings from the text book as these will be on the test.
