Test (2) Two

The second mid-term will open on the 28th at midnight. Remember that this is an open book test. Many of the questions will be from your text book and others will come from your assignments. Please read through the test first. Print it out, if you want, by pressing Ctrl/p. This is the only way to print a test. Research your answers and then sit and take the test all at one time to prevent leaving it open too long. Be sure to submit it. The test can be taken twice but cannot be graded if it is "in progress". Email me, if you have any questions.

THE RESEARCH PAPER

Read the Research Paper assignment carefully. Research Paper Assignment.txt A major component of this class is the research paper. This is a requirement for a 3-unit credit course. Please do not start your paper until your topic has been approved by me. A very important aspect of the research paper is your documentation of sources. Find many different sources i.e. magazine articles (Infotrac Library Database); newspaper articles (online and/or Lexus Nexus Library database); books (EVC Catalog and San Jose Public Library); and web pages and websites. See the MLA handout for examplses of citation style and the Perdue U Online Writing Lab for information on writing research papers.

Assignment 7 Information Competency

Read through the tutorial at Cal Poly State U on Information Competence given for your assignment. It provides guidance and practical exercises. The formal Information Literacy Competency Standards for Higher Education as defined by the Association of College and Research Libraries are availabe online, see link. Another useful tutorial is available at CSU Monterey Bay Library, see link. A CD ROM on Information Competency, which I created while on a sabbatical, will be loaded in the Evergreen College Library on the student computers in the Electronic Reference Area. This is another tool to use to understand the concepts of Information Competency.

Drop for a W (Withdrawal)

Please complete at least the first six assignments by November 22nd. Students who have not completed these six assignments and Test 1 will have to be dropped. Admissions and records have tightened their criteria for drops this semester and I cannot have students remain in the class if they are not doing the work in a timely manner. Students who are dropped on November 23 will receive a W grade.

TEST (1) One

is available as of Wednesday, October 10 at 7 AM. It cannot be clicked on before this date, however the timing is sometimes off by 3 hours because of WebCT. Check again at noon on Wednesday, if you cannot get in.

This is an "open book" test. Most of the questions come from your READINGS in the test book. READINGS LIB015 W.htm There are a combination of essay and multiple questions. Questions are randomized so that the order and sometimes the questions are different for each student. (The Readings were posted in Modules on Week One.)Pay attention to the vocabulary (Selected Terms Introduced in This Chapter) and the Review Questions at the end of each chapter. If you do not understand a question or chapter, do the Exercises and Projects to gain a deeper knowledge.

Remember to "Save Answer" for each question and click "Finish" at end to submit test.

The test can be printed out, and I recommend this. Print by clicking on Control-p (this seems to be the only way to print a test). It is 5 pages long but prints 6 pages with 17 questions. Study the test by reviewing the textbook chapters and the Internet. Then "take" the test in an hour or two. Don't leave the test open for an extended time.

The test will be technically open for one week, until the following Wednesday, November 18 at 7:00 AM BUT you should complete it by midnight on Tuesday, November 17. Once the test is closed it will not be reopened except for seriously extenuating circumstances!

The test is on chapters 1-7 and 9 . It will also include other relevant material that you have read on web tutorials or websites. The rest of the text book will be tested on in Test (2) two.

Hint: in the question subject history remember, you did an assignment on the history of the book, now study the History of the Internet

My sister's wedding...

Catching up...here are some pictures taken at the wedding I attended. My sister, Jennifer, exchanging vows with Agustin Vazquez from Guanajuato at the historic Santa Barbara Court House. My sister, Margo, came from Brisbane, Australia for this reunion. My friend Mani, from college days in India, my brother Eric (who came from NZ), myself and my husband, Bill Bruner. We had a wonderful reunion, wedding, good food and happy days. Now, back to work!
